Entering, exiting and parking

The remote controlled driveway gate: there is a large green button on each side of the gate (one long firm press to open). (Don’t damage the gate by trying to push the gate by hand.) It automatically closes after 60 seconds. If you’re walking through - use the black pedestrian side gate instead.

If in an emergency, the gate remote fails - it can be turned to manual opening by hand by inserting the key (hanging on the board under the gate electronics - on hinge side of the gate) into the small round key opening on the top of the large hydraulic opening ram near the hinge, and turning it a full quarter turn. This disables the ram, so the gate can be opened by hand freely.

Parking: please use the spaces next to your cottage (immeadiately on the right after entering the gate).

The front door is left unlocked for you. (The back door is only locked and unlocked from the inside.)

Checking In & Out

Self check in, but feel free to call or message us anytime. Check in from 3pm. Check out by 12 noon.

Please leave the cottage in a tidy state - rubbish in bins, dirty dishes washed and things left as you found them. (No need to make the bed as it will be changed. Towels to bathroom.) Leave the key in the front door.

You’re now living off-grid - time to conserve the use of power and water :)

What this means is all electricity, water, heating and waste is generated and processed on the property. (Solar, battery and generator for power - rain water collected and stored in tanks - firewood from trees - and onsite septic sewer system if you’re interested.)

All you need to know is: conserve the use of water (make sure taps or toilet flush are not left running), and power (turn off lights you’re not using - just a good practice anywhere you live :)

Your spaces

Outside: Please respect others privacy. The property has 5 accommodation options (Homestead Loft, Cottage, 2 Tents and a Studio) each with their own private outdoor spaces. Yours is the cottage and your own private front garden space. You can also walk what we call the fairway down your front garden steps and on past the chicken yard and orchard toward the bridge and dam. (You may access the bridge via the gate next to the chicken yard - please always close any shut gates behind you.)

Cooling

Even on very hot days in summer, you will find that the ceiling fans are adequate as the cottage is well insulated and shaded from the afternoon sun. It usually cools down quickly in the evenings here in the hills.

Heating

There’s a combustion wood heater (always keep the fire door closed when burning).

Lighting a wood fire: place 2 or 3 firelighters in the centre of the fireplace, place small kindling or pine cones on top of that, and 2 or 3 larger pieces of firewood on top of that. Light the firelighters with a match. Keep the top left knob pulled out (this opens the chimney flue) and the front door vent slide open when starting a fire. You can regulate the heat (and slow down the burn) by sliding the front door knob increasingly to closed. When it’s burning really hot you can also push the top knob in and shut the flue for even slower burning (overnight).

Water

The tap water is filtered rain water (it’s safe to drink).

The hot water is an instantaneous gas heater, run the hot first and add cold.

Cooking

Gas stovetop, oven and grill. The oven and grill is lit by the piazo button lighter. The stovetop burners must be lit with a match or the hand lighter next to the stovetop.

Wifi

No wifi but good mobile coverage.

Bluetooth Speaker

For your enjoyment, there’s a Wonderboom speaker that will easily connect to your phone via Bluetooth (instructions on the coaster under the speaker) to play your own music.

TV/DVD

We recommend disconnecting yourself online and connecting with each other and yourself instead. There’s lots of books to enjoy. TV reception is not so good here but it’s there mostly for DVD use (instruction book under the TV).
